I'd like to get a new phone because mine is from an older gen and I'd like a newer gen phone. I was wondering if there was any way of switching my old tab on my phone which is still on to my new phone when I get one. Would this be possible, or would I have to get a new tab and pay off the old one?

You have to pay off the old one before you can start a new one. This can be done by going to your self serve and the amount left owing will be added to your next bill, or you can pay it off at the time of purchase of the new phone.
If you get a new phone on a new tab you will also have to select one of the new plans being offered, the only way to avoid this is to pay for your new phone in full then you can keep your old plan if you wish.

From what I understand (which may be very little), Koodo has changed the terms of the Tab such that:

1.  You may be able to upgrade by buying the new phone outright and keep your old plan and Tab;
2.  You can upgrade to a new phone and keep your old plan but;
3.  If you have a - Tab balance it will be added to your bill and your old Tab is finished;
4.  If you have a + Tab balance you can use it toward an upgrade IF your new phone is on a new Tab; 5.  If you have a + Tab balance you can't use it toward the upgrade if you buy the phone outright;
6.  When your old Tab reaches $150 that's it, no further accumulation, no discount, nothing, until;
7.  You use your old Tab for an upgrade, at which time you'll have to go on the new Tab and a new plan.

Or maybe I just don't understand what Koodo has done to the Tab...

That's about as clear an explanation as I've heard.

For #7 are you forced to a new plan? I had thought is you only use the positive balance of your plan you could keep your old plan, but your tab wouldn't accumulate anymore.

Hey Moonmack,

If you make a phone upgrade using the standard Tab, you can keep your current plan.  However, in case you decide to purchase your phone using the Tab Plus, you would need to change your current package and choose one of the plans specially designed for the Tab Plus. More details here:http://koo.do/1JMOAbl.

Many thanks!
