Galaxy S2 sgh-t989d
running android version 4.0.4
in Kitchener, ON

Have the CSIS virus.  Can't get phone into safe mode, and can't get it to factory reset either.  Followed all the directions on the Samsung site - hold power+volume up, power+volume down, power+volume down+home key etc.

Can someone tell me how to get this into safe mode preferable, or factory reset if there is no safe mode on this phone.

Try holding power + volume down + the home button to get into recovery mode.
Then use the volume to scroll down to factory reset and tap power to chose that option.

Thanks Paul, tried that one, didn't work.

Finally got to factory reset through power+volume up+volume down.  Have to let go of the power button but keep holding both volume buttons.

Would have rather gone with safe mode but couldn't get my phone into it.  Time to clean the beast anyway! ;-)

Thanks again, Rob

There is no safe mode on the S2x recovery mode only as Paul suggested.

Safe mode is achieved by turning the phone off completely, then hold power button in until Samsung logo appears, then press volume down. It's difficult to see when safe mode is enabled as it appears in small font in the lower left corner of the S2x screen. In this case, a factory reset is your best option.
