Whenever we visit the USA we get a text from Koodoo. In the text it mentions Outgoing text =$5 for every 100 text sent. Is this only for texts back to Canada or are they also for within the USA. Are my husband and I (same account, different numbers) able to text back and forth at no cost?

1) Texts to Canada or the US.
2) No. Any texts will be charged roaming

So it doesn't cover texts within the USA?

So why is the text add-on so much more?

Because wireless companies can set any price they want to.

So if you text back and forth from a Canadian number to another Canadian number or to an American number you will only be charged $5 for up to 100 outgoing texts and no charge for any incoming texts? Is this correct?

Only if you are roaming in the US, then yes. And it is also based on your billing cycle. If your billing cycle ends tonight and you send 1 today and 1 tomorrow then thats $5 for today and then $5 to tomorrow (for the entire month)

I agree. I hate the $5 for 100 text bucket.
