i am going to the US and I plan on buying the 10 day txt plan,  what do I need to do to my phone to prevent charges for potential incoming calls, and googling.  do I turn it to airplane mode?

You can turn data roaming or just turn your data entirely off. If someone tries to call you just don't answer it.

thanks, , turning the data off, is this the same as airplane mode?  not really techy

Airplane mode blocks all cell service and sometimes blocks bluetooth and things of that nature. With airplane mode, you wont be able to text call, etc.
If you turn data off and dont make or take any calls you won't receive any charges and still will be able to text out.

The options should be in Settings > Cellular of your phone.
