Upgrading phone online versus in-store - is current ID required?

I'm looking to upgrade my old phone to the Moto X. I was set to do this yesterday at Best Buy, however, I don't have a driver's license or passport and realized my existing photo ID (provincial ID card) was expired, so I can't do it in-store.

If, however, I order the phone online through Koodo, will I still require any form of current ID? Note that I'm talking about upgrading my existing, working (albeit not very good) phone, not any prepaid phone.

Hi alex,

For online upgrading, all that it requires from you is to log into your self serve accounts and a valid credit card, apart from that it takes into consideration that only you have access to the self serve account and does not need to confirm you are really you.

This question was answered by Koodo phone support and a call to my local Koodo store too. I found I can order the phone online but since Koodo themselves don't ship it, I have to pick it up at the Koodo store with the receipt, at which point they would still ask for photo ID.

Wait, now that I'm looking up some other threads about ordering online I'm confused. Can Koodo ship a phone to an address or not? I was led to believe they send you to the nearest Koodo store...

And then to activate it, you can just do it online and without using any ID? That kind of contradicts what I was told on the phone...

yup, whenever you get it you will also receive a sim card with it that you will just have to enter the number in self serve to activate!
