Can I upgrade to Lollipop when my phone isn't purchased from Koodo?

I am probably going to be buying an unlocked LG G3 to use on Koodo. Will an upgrade to Lollipop be available even though I will be on a non Koodo phone? Or will I be permanently stuck on Kit Kat? I've never been able to upgrade my other phone (S2) so I am unfamiliar with the process.

Thanks

Since neither Koodo nor Telus carry the LG G3, you'll be 'stuck' with KitKat, though having an unlocked device will allow you to choose from carriers that offer the upgrade.

Thanks. In theory, if my device is unlocked, could I get someone on a carrier that carries the G3 to pop their SIM in, then upgrade and the put my koodo SIM back in?

In theory, yes that should work.

All I can add is that I got a Rogers Note3, unlocked it and upgraded it to 4.4 on Bell. So if the current carrier (Koodo) offers the ROM, you should be able to upgrade. If not...see above :)
