Was looking into upgrading phone few days ago, but turns out you can't keep the old tab system and old plan, you must upgrade to the new tab so you are paying old plan price + tab charge

The fact is with the old plan price has subsidy built in, so by keep your old plan and getting onto the new tab you are effectively double charged for subsidy. Very bad practice for long time customers who signed up because of the old tab system worked well.

No, that's how the new system works.

You might want to crunch some #s to see if the new plans + Tab charge are better than your old plan + Tab charge before you dismiss it. But if your old plan still ends up being cheaper, I'm afraid you're out of luck because this is how the new Tab system operates.
