upgrade iphone4 to iphone5

hi
I'm on a Koodo prepaid plan on my iPhone4. I'm getting an iPhone5 from my daughter, I know it needs a smaller SIM card but a local shop can cut the SIM from the 4 down so it fits the 5. My question: Can I just continue to use the same SIM card (ie same phone number etc) and I imagine I can just restore the iPhone5 from a backup of my old phone?

thanks

Yes you can. However, be careful when you put in the cut sim as the nano sim card standard is a bit thinner. The tolerances should let it still fit, but just be sure to do it carefully.

Or, you can buy a new SIM for a few bucks and be certain it will fit the phone. You can then transfer your account to the new SIM in Self-serve.

To make things simple, your daughter should restore the phone to factory specs in her iTunes account before passing it to you. That way all issues of transferring a phone are dealt with at that point. You can then set it up as a new phone as you described.

Getting a nano prepaid SIM is actually a huge "PITA" (sorry, this is a family forum so I can't translate that) :)
There aren't many stores that sell one for sure... and the cost is $20 if you can get your hands on one.

However truth be told I'd still recommend you take the trouble to get one that size, because as Goran said cutting the bigger one is a bit of a risk and your phone is too expensive for that.

It's your choice however but I just thought I'd volunteer the suggestion :)

You should be able to get a new sim from the store without being charged for a new one.

thanks everyone, the only reason I was gonna use the same SIM card is that I wouldn't have to change the phone number but sounds like I can transfer it through self-serve as David says. I'll have to look at the menu options in self-serve to see how to do that

Couldn't be easier, log into self service, then click the tab Phone Services, then Change SIM Card.

Why not just go to the store and say you just got the iPhone 5 and need the sim to fit it, and they would set it up for you. Ive done it twice and both times for my g5, the guy just scanned the sim and gave me it, no charges.
