Can anyone tell me why my samsung galaxy Ace is suddenly saying on the front of it "unregistered SIM"? It is working the same as it always does and I don't recall pressing naything different and it's never shown this before when I turn it on. What does it mean and why is it suddenly showing up?

It has been known to happen from time to time with that phone. One thing you can try is to take the battery and SIM card out of the phone for about a minute, then put it all back together and power up the phone. Make sure you leave the phone ON when taking the battery and SIM out.

Most of the time that would fix the issue. Make sure the Network Mode is set to GSM/WCDMA AUTO. Tap on NETWORK MODE to bring up the options

To get to that setting..go to SETTINGS>WIRELESS AND NETWORKS>MOBILE NETWORKS...you should see NETWORK MODE near the bottom of the list.

If that does not work, then call Koodo at 1-866-995-6636 and pick the option for tech support.

Actually, the original galaxy ace doesn't list it as network mode. It's in the same spot but it's called use only 2g networks. It needs to be unchecked.

Oh right! forgot about that. Thanks for correcting it, Timo. I'm so used to working with all other galaxy phone with network mode, I keep forgetting the Ace setting

Thanks to both of you! That was the issue-- somehow I must have checked the box for use 2g networks. When I unchecked it, the Unregistered message disappeared.
Appreciate it.

Kimberly, I wonder if you'd be willing to share something with us. Us being the community. Folks around here noticed that people sometime ask the same question eventhough an answer has already been provided in another post for the same problem. Your topic is one of those. So, I'm just curious if you have seen the other posts, before you posted yours. They appreared when you typed in your question. Thanks!

Hi,
When I first posted my question, it came back with some potential similar topics that had been posted by others and asked me if this was what I was looking for...I did not read each and every one, but I looked at the topic titles quickly to see if anythign seemed similar and I did not see anything that mentioned unregistered SIM in the title, or I would have checked it out. Possible I missed it because I am at work and I'm multi-tasking and but I have used this forum before and I do usually check. I do not recall seeing the one you have linked, which very obviously has Unregistered Sim in the title. If I had I obviously would have had my answer and not had to post.

No worries, Kimberly :) The forum is here for questions, so ask away - I see that topic suggestion more as a first aid (such as "what is Koodo's phone number?"), but your question was quite specific :D

The H stands for HSPA and represents your 3G data connection.
