Unregistered SIM Card - Switching Over From Telus

I just switched over to Koodo from Telus directly at a Koodo outlet with a sales rep. When she switched out my Telus SIM card for the new Koodo one, "Unregistered SIM Card" appeared on my phone. I'm using a Samsung Note 5. I left there after almost 2 hours of waiting and I'm still having the same issue. They told me to restart my phone every 30min to an hour and that it should connect to the network before the end of the day. I was reading other posts and many others have had this issue. How long did it take for the issue to get resolved? As we live our lives on our phones these days and I'm also being independent worker, I need my phone to work ASAP. Any insight on this would be appreciated! Thank you.

@Marco: As Telus and Koodo are the same company, the switch normally takes 1 hour. Have you tried the Telus SIM, was it still working? Also, I would try to reset the network settings on the Samsung also (Settings > Backup and reset > Reset network settings).

If that doesn't work out. You might need to contact Koodo directly. (koodo facebook or call). You could  call the store and ask them to check on your case. They are the one responsible for it.

“As Telus and Koodo are the same company, the switch normally takes 1 hour.”

Who says, other than you obviously? Even porting from different providers don’t take that long. Between Koodo and TELUS, it is less than 5 minutes if not seconds.

@Do-you-know-who: Not sure what you are trying to do here. Can you provide your reason why it (the OP case) took that long?
I am not sure how did you define "completion of porting". For me, it is the time from I ordered the porting to the time I received the text that my account was ready. It was sometimes more than 1 hour for me.

@Dinch
Thank you for taking the time to respond! The Telus SIM was working prior to switching out for the new SIM but I haven't tried putting the Telus SIM back in to see if it still works. By resetting the network setting, will I lose stored WiFi passwords on my phone?
Yes, the salesperson told me to contact customer service or call back the store itself if the issues persisted passed 3-4 hours.
Thank you again for your help.

Yes, you lose the wifi and bluetooth connection password after the reset. However, it might help to reset the cellular connection.

The store should be able to help you, they should not have left you with an unregistered SIM.

Yes, I found that weird too. They close at 6pm so I still have 4 hours to troubleshoot the issue and go back if anything. Thank you again for your help and prompt response. I really appreciate it!

Did they port you over or sign you up and then have you port over later?
