Unlocking a Samsung phone without network code.

I have a Samsung Gio, originally unlock by Virgin Mobile. I have since had to factory reset my phone (now it's locked again) and switched to Koodo, Virgin denies ever giving me a code and want me to pay another $50 to unlock it. Is there another way to unlock my phone? Jailbreaking?

There's no other way to unlock the phone. Did you enter the code originally when you ordered it from Virgin, or did you just pay them for it?

A phone is supposed to remain unlocked, no matter how many times you perform a factory reset.

I did put in the code when I first got it. But I no longer have the code.

Do you happen to have a bill or know what bill the $50 was charged to? With that information, you can get Virgin to bring up the bill and see fortemselves that they have charged you. They should be able to give you the code at no cost.
