I 've had my phone for 8 months now and I wanted to unlock it. I was wondering, does it have to be done under Koodo, and if so can I get it done at a Koodo store outside this city (like in Toronto), even though I got my phone in Vancouver? Thanks :)

Koodo shops won't do it; you'll have to request it on Self Serve or call customer service to get an unlock code. There's a $35 fee.

Your other option is to go third-party. My preferred site is cellunlocker.net - consistently reliable and fast with secured payment options like PayPal. I must have done at least 6 phones with them so far. GSMliberty is another reputable source but I've personally never used them yet.

I read somewhere that If you go to a third-party to unlock, then you can't be under Koodo's service anymore. So I guess that's not true?

And thanks so much for the info!!

Lol, where did you read that? That's definitely untrue. I unlocked my Moto G with cellunlocker.net back in December to use with Rogers for a while (eventually dumped them and switched to Telus) but gave my Koodo service to my cousin for him to use and the phone's still as good as ever. I picked up another Moto G to use for myself until I can get my hands on an M8.

Read it in one of these Q&A's on unlocking phones haha. Anyways I'm glad to hear that!
Thanks again! :)
