While it would truly be nice, there is no way this is realistic in our lifetime (other than services like Skype and such) especially directly from a carrier.

Either that or vast fortunes would be lost by whichever provider offered it.

This would require the collaboration of at least one carrier in each country/region around the world. It would be a monumental task, but not impossible.

The vast majority of cell phone users use their service in a very localized region (area code). Some would require use across the country. A portion would require usage of their phone while travelling on vacation (2-4 weeks out of the year), and even then the travel would generally be localized to one foreign region/country. There is really only maybe a handful of people who would require worldwide coverage... and most likely they are not with Koodo. :)

The idea is pie-in-sky and idealistic -- it doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for it. But it probably isn't worth the effort in time, planning, and logistics to satisfy what would be a very niche demographic of users.

Easy to accomplish. Prove you are the child of the richest person in the world, get your inheritance and purchase and put in orbit your own personal satellites that cover the whole planet. See, I told you it was easy.
