I have a friend over in the UK right now, and we talk on the phone a lot, as you can imagine, the bills are a bit pricy, will getting the Unlimited LD service(U.K.) ($20 a month) add on allow me to call over there for free? I call her on her cell phone also, will that affect anything?

It will still use your airtime minutes but you won't pay for roming. Also, calling her on mobile shouldnt change anything

So I won't be charged the 50 cents a minute then? We talk on the phone every day, so i want an add-on/different plan that will enable me to call her on my cell phone for free whenever I want. Will getting the Unlimited UK LD add on with a plan that has unlimited air time minutes permanently solve my problem?

I'm getting a bit of a leary feeling that maybe a Koodo rep can clear up.

From what's said on the site (screen grabs below) this $20 extra gives you unlimited to UK provided you have an unlimited plan to begin with.

Otherwise, your UK minutes eat up your Canada-wide plan allotment.

Does this mean that you need the big $94 plan + 20 to get unlimited to UK ?

OR

can you use a cheaper plan, say $30 + $20 to add unlimited calling + $20 for the UK privileges ?

I would verify carefully with Koodo and not take anyone else's word for it.

I currently have the Canada Wide $30 a month plan, unlimited texting, 200 mb of data, 150 airtime minutes, and so on. My plan now is to get the Unlimited LD UK add on, and upgrade my plan so that I get unlimited airtime minutes.

Another way to go about to use an app like Viber. If most of your calls are from your and you have wi-fi, viber will let you make calls for free as long as the other person also has viber. Works for us great when calling overseas.

RudyW suggestion is great for cases when it's most often a 1-to-1 call situation to the same number all the time.

Less so if you have numerous or relatively random contacts on the other end.

I second the suggestion of a data-based connection rather than using minutes. Viber, Skype, FaceTime, etc. work well for regular contacts, especially if both are in a location with non-cellular data connections, or if lots of cellular data is available at reasonable cost.
