I received the message "Unfortunately, com.android.phone has stopped working" and now my Moto G will not recognize my SIM card.

Are you using a V3 SIM? Check to see if there's 4 zeroes in the middle of the sequence.

Does it happen frequently? Have you tried removing it and then putting it back together again?

Make sure you don't have any updates waiting for the phone by going into settings - about phone - check for updates and update the phone if there is a new update waiting for the device. Update on a full charge while the phone is plugged in and download the update over wifi if possible as to not use up your Koodo data which can get expensive.

You can try doing a factory reset. This usually resolves most software issues.

That's usually a last resort, and if the SIM is the issue, then a factory reset wouldn't fix it.

In this instance, it'd be more of an issue with the phone not recognizing the sim card, than it is with the sim card.
