Sorry to hear about that Heather. Easiest way to fix that is to turn data off. If data is left on while using Wi-Fi and the Wi-Fi signal is lost, your phone will automatically revert to using data.

Depending which Android device you have, go to: Settings > More Settings > Mobile networks > uncheck the Mobile data check box. This will disable data usage and you'll be able to use Wi-Fi without incurring any data charges. These settings are for the Galaxy S2x and the Galaxy Ace 2x.

I have same problem. The only difference is that my data automatically comes on as soon as I turn my vehicle on. Has nothing to do with Wi-Fi.  Never had a problem before but the last 2 weeks (November 1, 2015) Now I'm getting charged for data that I don't even use. Settings are right till I turn my vehicle on hence I'm thinking it has something to do with bluetooth????How do I fix that

Hey Janice.
No that doesn't really make sense.
The two have nothing to do with each other.
If you turn data off, it is supposed to stay off until you turn it on.
What kind of phone are you using?
and how are you turning the data off?

Is there some app being used to tether your vehicle to your phone?

Download this from Play Store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.data.enabler

You will then have a one-button solution to toggle data off and on on your home screen as well as a witness to tell you when it's turned on for whatever reason.

If it's an iPhone, when it is not plugged in, the phone will turn off the wifi antenna to conserve energy but cellular data stays connected.
It does connect back when you wake it up from sleep.

Like rikkster said, turning off data when you dont need it is the best way to prevent the problem.
Yes I know to turn data off,,and I do that,,only to check later I'm and it's back on,,that's what is ticking me off ,,stupid.phone.

Somethng doesn't add up here. As long as you as you have the mobile data switched off, it won't turn itself on. I'm thinking that you believe that it's turned off when it actually isn't. I've never heard of a phone that automatically turns the mobile data on by itself.

The only situation that comes to mind is if you have a mobile data switch app on your home screen and you accidentally hit it.

The situation that you explained, tells me that your mobile data is already turned on. A wifi connection will override a mobile data connection until the phone is out of wifi range, then the mobile data connection will take over.

If, by the off chance, you have turned your mobile data off and it comes back on its own, take the phone in for repair into a Koodo shop.

You have a 1 year warranty on the phone. You can take the phone into a Koodo shop to have it sent off for repair. That is the support that Koodo offers for these types of issues.

@Heather Brideau-Lapointe.
It looks like that after a recent update to the Galaxy S2, the phone turns on the wifi and Data/4G randomly.
To correct this. Go to the settings and under wireless and network choose "more", then choose "mobile networks", then "connections optimizer" and uncheck the box.

From my research it looks like the phone installed the connections optimizer during an update and automatically turned it on
