I have a BlackBerry Z10 (used to be on Rogers) which I am trying to activate with Koodo Prepaid. I have gone through the Koodo activation instructions, but I cannot send/receive calls. Mobile Network is ON. At the swipedown display, the Mobile Network says Rogers Wireless. I don't believe it is recognizing the Koodo sim card?? Any ideas??
Thanks in advance!

From the top swipe down

Select Mobile networks

Change the network type,

Make sure it says hspa/umts not just gsm

Oh and it is unlocked right?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, it's unlocked. I checked the IMEI on Koodo's 'checker'.

When I change the network type, I get a window which says "Network Not Available-No Network found for the selected mode. Would you like to switch to global mode?"

When I swipe down, it says Rogers Wireless under Mobile Network. That seems fishy to me.

What do you think?

There's nothing fishy about it. It's just showing you a list of available networks for the selected network type - despite the fact that you cannot connect to Rogers with your SIM card. It does sound like the network type is stuck on GSM (2G) as Chad stated.

Checking the imei doesn't mean it's unlocked.

Did you purchase and use an unlock code?

No, I haven't purchased or used an unlock code. Where can I get this? Sorry I'm a cell phone noob.

As Chad pointed out, sounds like your phone is still locked. Imei checker on Koodo's site just sees if the phone will work on the network, not if the phone is unlocked.

It is abit odd that it says Rogers and not 'sim not allowed ' or 'emergency calls only'.
Are you certain the Koodo sim that you put in the phone has been activated?

Not really odd, Koodo and Rogers may not have a roaming agreement, since the phone ia locked it is only able to connect to ita home network. And that network doesn't recognize the sim but will allow emergency calls.

Okay, I guess my phone is still locked. Whats the best way to get it unlocked? I was thinking to go to a Koodo store/booth in a mall this afternoon.

To clarify, it says Rogers Wireless when I swipe down, underneath/next to the Mobile Network button (while the swipe down menu is open).

Please advise as to what the best method for getting my phone unlocked would be. I looked online but don't trust all the "Free Unlockers".

Thanks!

Go to Settings-Security and Privacy - SIM card. There it should says Network Unlocked. If not, that phone is locked.

The free unlocks don't work for bb10. You will need to purchase which goes for around 30 for a Rogers z10. I think Koodo now unlocks other providers phones, but not entirely sure about that

Also, I have activated my Koodo prepaid sim card online.

Well I struck out at the Koodo booth today. The sales person was not too interested in helping me personally. She dialed the Koodo help number on the desk phone for me, so that I could deal with a technical rep, but I was in the mall and it was noisy and I couldn't hear. Think I will try the help # from home tomorrow where I can hopefully hear the other person.

So, is it safe to say that my phone is locked to Rogers, and that I need to get it unlocked to work Koodo prepaid??

Cellunlocker.net always works for me unless you can find a reputable ebay seller. Figure on spending, 25-35$
