If I'm down in the US using wi-fi, do texts count against my data? Or does being on wi-fi allow texts to be received & sent with no data usage?  My phone is a Motorola.

You can't send or recieve texts over wifi at all so if you send or recieve them it's using your Koodo service whether your connected to wifi or not.

What you can do is use something like Facebook Messenger over a wifi connection and keep in touch with someone that's using that messaging service as well. F

There is an Android app that allows you to send or receive text over wifi without the other party needing any special software.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pinger.textfree

You will be assigned a different phone number, but it does indeed work. Stick with the messaging portion of the app.
