Best thing to do is to remove your SIM card completely. Your phone will still pick wi-fi signals and can use it to browse the Internet including sending and receiving emails. You won't be able to text this way unless you download an app like viber that allows texting through wi-fi as long as the recipients also have the same app. The alternative is to get one of koodo's Mexican add on, just watch your data usage.

No SIM turns your phone into a wifi tablet. No mobile data, voice, or text. You can accomplish the same thing by going into Airplane Mode and then re-activating WiFi only.

You need the SIM in place to do standard texting without using another application. If your phone supports it, disable data roaming & mobile data. Set your ring tone to none or silent if you don't want to reflexively answer an incoming call.

If you are willing to limit your data usage to wifi hotspots, toggling Airplane Mode on and off should not be a real hardship or complication. Keep your phone in Airplane Mode while away from hotspots, and then toggle out of it to do your texts and emails if you wish to use the add-on.

Undelivered messages should appear when you toggle Airplane Mode Off and On the next time.

Have a nice trip.
