Hello - I have signed up to receive Translink alerts for when buses or skytrains are not running or having a problem or there is a change. I get a message indication on my new Samsung Galaxy Ace but when I press download - it is blank - no message nothing. I used to have a Samsung Evergreen phone which worked just fine for Translink messages. All other messages and pictures are received without any problems. All messages are coming in as MMS - perhaps this is the problem? Anyone have any ideas?

If you do not have data enabled on your phone you will not be able to receive or sent MMS messages.

It would be advised to get one of the plans that include data to avoid charges as well, although the data saver included in all the current plans should also do the trick if you don't require data that much.

I hope this helps :)

I have data and it is enabled - it seems to be a problem with Translink alerts only - I wrote to them to ask if their alerts are not compatible with their messaging system - they told me to contact my provider. They said to ask to have "msm" messages enabled. What is that?

MMS messages stand for Multimedia Messaging Service. It sounds as if these Translink alerts are going to have some kind of video or audio component to them.

if you only use data for MMS you can also change the apn type on the galaxy ace to MMS only. This will allow you to leave data on without the phone using it in the background. If you do this, make sure you tap the menu button and choose save before leaving the apn edit screen.

Hey Agi, APN is short for Access Point Name. To access the APN in the Samsung Galaxy Ace, press the menu button, then settings, then wireless & networks, then mobile networks. Now look for Access Point Names and tap on that. Then tap on the Kooodo APN, this will bring up a list. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the option APN type. From here you can remove default, supl but leave mms.
