Hello,
I am trying to get a transcript of messages with a particular number. Does anyone know how long Koodo keeps these records on file? I was told on the phone that they are kept from the beginning since I got my phone, but a thread here says 30 days. Can someone confirm before I go through the motions to get it?
Thanks!

Transcript of messages? As when you sent them or what they contained? Copy of texts you won't be able to get. When they were sent is all online available to you for the last 18 months.

Without a court order.

Content that isn't on your phone, you'll need a court order to retrieve and im not sure how far back koodo is mandated to hold onto your messages

I think retrieving copies of old deleted texts is possible with a court order Chris. (not 100% sure though) As for c h's question on how far back, I have no idea. Maybe someone else will know the answer to that. :)
EDIT: Chad beat me to it

I'm not a lawyer, but based on what I've read, TELUS routinely makes electronic copies of all the text messages sent or received by its subscribers and stores them on a computer database for a period of 30 days.

"Text messages that are sent by a TELUS subscriber are copied to the computer database during the transmission process at the point in time when the text message enters TELUS’ transmission infrastructure. Text messages received by a TELUS subscriber are copied to the computer database when the TELUS subscriber’s phone receives the message".

While Koodo is directly affiliated with TELUS in terms of tower/network usage, it's not known whether Koodo maintains a similar database of text messages. It would however seem somewhat probable based on Koodo's association with TELUS, but that's purely speculative on my part.

It would probably be best to write a letter addressed to Koodo's legal department or contact TELUS's Privacy Department at 1-800-567-0000 for further information.
