Tons of spam callers since signing up with Koodo?

I've been with Koodo on prepaid for about 2 or 3 months now, and I'm loving it; except I'm getting a serious amount of spam calls ever since the month I signed up.

I haven't given my number to any companies or anything yet, so I don't think it's anything to do with what I'm doing with the number.

I'm thinking it might be that someone had used/is using my number for different things, because when I answer the calls they don't sound like normal ones saying that I won something, etc. They sound more like automated calls from someone signing up with a company using my number.

For example, I just received an automated call that said "Thank you for using West Jet". And all of them are automated like this, and they're so common that they're almost daily.
Weird thing is, I have a 313 number, and all these calls are 313 numbers as well, if that means anything.

Anyone else had this issue before? Any tips on getting rid of these callers? Or is it easiest just to switch my number?

Thanks! :)

If they are constantly calling from the same numbers, you could install a call blocker on your device. If it's from all different numbers then your only real option is to change your number.

You can do so for free in self serve.

My partner and I get these calls an awful lot too. Most often the appear to come from local cell numbers, but sometimes they come from numbers that appear to be local but with an additional 1 prefixed. this makes me think that someone is likely spoofing local numbers (sometimes making errors by added an extra digit) and making these spam calls with those spoofed numbers.

Blocking works, but they are not always coming from the same number. It isn't a terribly big deal but several times a week is a bit obnoxious.

You may also try to put your name on the "Do Not Call List" It may work.

This is a good thought, but that might only be sufficient for telemarketing or other types of unsolicited but otherwise legitimate calls. These I think are straight up scam calls. (also, there is actually no real barrier to phoning a number on the DNC list. Marketing companies can sell blocks of listings that include numbers on the DNC list and caller can easily call those numbers. The only deterrent is the possibility that a person might complain which might result in a fine (again, only IF the person who is already on the DNC complains)).

No harm in trying though. I have had my number on there for years now, and I very rarely get unwanted calls.

I just registered on the National Do not call list web site. I have a new phone, and do not receive telemarketing calls at this time, but will be good for the future. When I had a land line I had an unlisted number and that totally eliminated any telemarketer calls. So with a cell phone I was worried about getting unwanted calls, but now with registering on this site, this will help my worry. This information is appreciated, thank you....... It is great having a forum here for help. And peeps reply promptly.... ;-)

You could using a recycled number and previous user of this very number would have signed up with those services.

Ive been getting these same calls for more than a year now...always from a prefixed phone number that's the same as mine...447...I don't bother to pick them up whatsoever and over the last couple of months they've thinned out quite a lot. They happen less and less frequently!
I've also registered my mobile with the "Do Not CaLL" list and I never receive soliciting phone calls...just the scam one...
Here....check this...
