Thinking about switching from bell to koodo. I'm wanting the iphone 6 16gb and from what I can see it makes sense to go with a tab medium and I'd go with the $50 lightweight plan plus the $5 per month tab. What does everyone else think about this setup? I will have to fork out 550 for the phone but the plan will be easier to take. I'd like to go for the tab large but I don't want to have to shell out that tab large plan. Just to confirm there is no way of going with a tab large and staying with a lightweight plan? Also would I be smart to port my number over and get a medium tab as I hear all the plans/tabs will be changing in a week essentially?

Thanks for the info!

Your plan of porting in with a medium Tab and the $50 plan sounds all good. As far as your question about getting a large tab with a lightweight plan the answer is no it can not be done as the large tab requires the customer to have a large tab plan for the duration of the tab until it's paid in full.
When it comes to the new tab structure that's coming nobody can really suggest what to do or when to do it as nobody knows what the new tab structure and plans will look like exactly and won't until it's announced.
I have a feeling it would be best to make the switch before the changes as the changes with carriers in Canada over the last nearly two years have mostly been for the worse for the customer IMO anyways with the exception being the Medium Tab with a $30 plan. It's really up to you and it's a crap shoot either way as we don't know what's coming exactly so just make your choice and stick with it, it's really all you can do unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Are you allowed to change your plan when you want like other carriers? I guess I could go with the setup I mentioned and if something else comes along I could change to a different plan. Dishing out that 550 is a pain I'll admit. I'm almost tempted to buy a phone outright but then I won't find a complete plan I guess. What's koodo's customer service like? Like do you think if I called in to maybe get some more data added onto the 750mb say to top it off and give me a full gig. I'm sure I'd have more leveredge if I was a long time customer.

Yep you can change your plan whenever you want. As for asking for more data, koodo won't do that as they try to keep things fair for all their customers. Hope that helps :)

You think I should just spend a bit more and get an unlocked phone outright? The plan I mentioned before works out to be the cheapest but I guess if I bought unlocked I wouldn't be tied down.

You wouldn't be tied down for sure, but you can unlock your phone for 35$ after being 3 month with Koodo. So I wouldn't pay more just for my phone to be "unlocked"

If you ever want it unlocked, wait 3 months, pay 35$ and go with the plan you want

Here's a small breakdown. If you quit after 3 mth, unlocked option would be the best one because you would'be paid less. Those fees do not include unlocking of 35$ neither they include tax. They already include paying the remaining tab when you leave!

So if I choose to unlock it then I can pick whatever plan I guess as long as the $5 from the tab can stay on? Realistically I think I'll stay with the 50 plan for a while but just wanted to see my options.

You can pick the plan you want and get 10% for bringing your own device. No tab charge will be applie to your acct

That's only if I purchase the phone outright though right? Like my scenario is to pay for the phone or 550 for 55 total a month and then maybe unlock it. Would I still get 10% even if I previously had a tab, etc?

You wouldn't get the 10% if you take a Tab because it would go to the negative. You get 10% off only if you have a positive tab balance.

So yeah you have 2 choices

1) Pay full phone + 45$/month (50-10% no tab)*
2) Pay phone on tab + 55$/month (50$+5$ tab charge)

*For this, if you have a negative tab from a previous phone you would need to pay it in order to have 10% of your monthly plan!

Also is there a typo for the 5s?: https://shop.koodomobile.com/koodo-ce...

It shows 300 off but if you pay 350 that doesn't equal the 725 amount listed. Error?75 difference..

Nope not a typo I believe, these are like promos. Iphones were an extra 100 off at one point on Tab M.
