Hi. I will be in Iceland for a short time and need to send the odd text back home to Canada. I also, would be checking for incoming texts from home. How would I be able to do this without being charged too much - especially concerned about roaming charges. Thank you.

Hi Colette,

Embrace yourself... brace yourself too. Texting from Iceland and receiving texts while there will set you back $0.60 per message. Not only that, but if you use data it's $5 per MB and calls $1.50 per minute... you will probably want to leave your phone on airplane mode while there and just use WiFi... or see if you can buy a local SIM!

Thank you for your reply. I don't plan on using the internet at all or making phone calls. I'm bringing my Ipad and will be using that for internet (free WIFI).
Was thinking I may need to send and receive approx 4-6 text messages. If it's $0.60/text, then would it not only cost me approx $4.00 in total? Thanks ...

Oh ok that doesn't sound so bad... as long as you know what to expect! You're still best off to switch off data though, unless you have a non-smart phone anyway. Happy travels!
