I'm a new Koodo customer with a brand new iPhone SE & I just got back from 2 weeks in Mexico.  Frustrated because I added a $15 texting plan just before I left Canada.  It was confirmed by text that I'd added it, welcomed me to Mexico, but it never worked.  I could not send or receive texts while I was there unless I was hooked into WIFI.   Anyone else have this problem?

Ummmmm..... you can't send texts by Wi-Fi. Since you have an iPhone, iMessages would  be sent by Wi-Fi, so that may explain that side of things.  You also can't send iMessages through just a text plan, as they use data!

EVERYBODY gets the Welcome to Mexico message, as it notifies them of the costs, plan or no plan!

Buying the Add-on only nets you a savings on your roaming fees, it does not change anything about the ability of the phone to roam. Without the Voice / Text / Data Add-on, you can still roam at pay-per-use prices.  Before your next trip, sign into the Koodo self serve website. Make sure to add the free “International Voice Roaming" and / or the free “International Data Roaming” add on. Once at your destination, turn airplane mode on and off. When your phone connects it should be working.

Hope this helps!

I added the International texting plan by texting TXT15 to 7626 before I left Canada as the website instructed.  I was to get 75 outgoing and free incoming international texts.  Here's what the confirmation email said:

I did not have airplane mode set on my phone when I was trying to text (outside of areas with WIFI).  I could see that the phone was accessing the Telcel network.  Still, texting did not work.

Patti, the add-ons indicated previously are described in this post. They are not the same as the dollar cost add-ons you texted. These free add-ons SHOULD automatically be applied to your account when you purchase the short term add-on, but sometimes (often?) aren't.  The free add-ons are meant to protect the unknowing from huge pay-per-use charges when travelling.  Have a look and see if they are on your account before you next travel out of Canada!

I can understand Patti's frustration and BTW Koodo could get an award for most confusing web site. Give the woman a refund at least. Now on to me. I just tried to get the txt15 for mexico and got no confirmation it was there. I used to just go to the website and add that. Why did they take that away? That makes no sense to me. Think I will do without as by your very complex explanation it isn't worth anything, and certainly doesn't so what it says on the website. Patti is right.

I spent 2 1/2 hours on hold to get the $15 international texting addon to make sure it was done right. I received a texted confirmation it was on when I arrived in Australia. I now received a text saying I've use $50 on roaming data. Don't know why. Very disappointing. So much for thinking highly of Koodos!

I used to do these things via the website and it worked perfectly. Now the option to do that is gone, texting does not work and you can't get through their service line...ready to switch.

Well the 15 dollar add-on only gives you 75 outgoing texts. It does not stop you from using data or give you any reduced rates. You would have to turn off data in your phone or turn off data roaming to not incur data charges. 50 dollars in data roaming isn't a lot of data at the rates Koodo charges, so it wouldn't have taken much.

It is definitely unfortunate that you cannot anymore. It does seem to be buggy occasionally doing it via sms. However, as far as I know, you can still add it via the self-serve app.
