text billed after replacing handset

My texting messages were restricted to 100 messages per month after i upgraded my handset last year.  I noticed it because a couple months ago I was billed for messages. I've had the same plan for our 2 phones for a few years now and never before I was billed for messages.  When I got my new handset I was told that nothing would change with my plan.  I'm very unhappy about this, as my plan was changed without my consent.  I have a small tab balance and feel like shopping.

Koodo does not have any plans which offer only 100 messages. All plans have offered unlimited messaging for roughly the past five years. Before that, some plans included 25 outgoing messages before you would be charged. Are you sure you didn't venture near the US border and get billed for accidental roaming? If so, koodo will credit the charges, but you will need to contact them directly, either by phone or Facebook messenger to do so.

Thanks Timo,
Our plan is about 8 years old, and originally had unlimited messaging.  This changed after I upgraded my handset last year.  My self serve page shows texting with a /50 meaning that there are 100 texts shared by the 2 phones on the plan.  We were billed for texting a few months ago because we exceeded the 100 messages.  I will look into the account for more details

By all means, do as you will. Bear in mind, though, that the old unlimited messaging add on was an extra $5 a month. If you're paying less than that in overage fees you may still be better off without it.

Timo,
My wife pulled out the plan, it has had 100 minute texting since day 1, so it is my mistake, we never had unlimited texting.  We just never exceeded the limit before.  This happened last October and we exceeded the limit for 18 messages, which were billed at 11 dollars and change.  Our plan is very affordable and I don't want to change that, unless I could add some texting to it separately.

Unlimited messaging is no longer available as a separate add on since koodo started including it in all plans. As I said before, though, even if it was still available it would cost an extra $5 a month, it would cost you more in the months than you've apparently paid for text overages in 8 years.
