I have been having terrible service at my house and my cell is also my house phone. My husband is having the same problems and my neighbours across the street from us are also having the same problem. I live in Selkirk Ontario on the lake. This has been happening for 3 weeks now.

You didn't say if everything was fine previously. If all of a sudden everyone in the neighbourhood has the same dropout, then there may be a tower problem.

Lakefront properties typically have terrible reception due to being in the bottom of the bowl where overhead signals don't like reaching. I've had 3 cottages in a row that suffered from this, while up the road, just a little more elevated, signal was fine.

Android Signal strength

Bars on the phone are just barely decorations. Download from Google Play:

or something similar. Gives fairly instanteneous readings for voice and data in -dBm units. As long as you show less than 100 -dBm, you should be able to communicate. If you can send yourself a text and receive it promptly, then the network connection is working.

Even in areas that have good coverage, it’s not uncommon to have dead zones. Stay away from large metallic objects such as wrought iron railings and open any metallic window blinds.

Had a local problem with trees galore at home in a rural area and was able to find a “hot spot” where everything works.

There are sister apps that will do the same for WiFi coverage as well.

Boosters can help, but they have to be properly installed and can’t amplify a non-existent signal.
