I am being charged 3 taxes on my bill. B.C. no longer has PST....only HST. Why am I being charged the 3 taxes?

Hi there Jacquie... Is the billing address on your account a BC address??? Or do you probably have a different province address there?

A little late for an explanation. But you are probaly aware now that BC reverted back to GST/PST on April 1st. What probably happened was the proration of taxes depending on payable date (HST before certain date and GST/PST for the remainder of the period). Take a calculator to ensure that the tax adds up to 12%; it likely will or will be close.

On subsequent bills you will see GST and PST only ( as the HST is now extinguished). The HST designation might be still there as a template for provinces that have HST but for BC it will only represent GST.

You might see this on your bill.

GST $x.xx
PST $x.xx
HST $x.xx

GST/HST $x.xx
PST $x.xx

The first scenario shown lower down the bill under "C u r r e n t C h a r g e s - D e t a i l" will probably only show GST then PST next month.

The Second Scenario possible under "BILL SUMMARY" might stick around but the GST/HST will only comprise of 5% as opposed to 12% for HST. This is relatively common as it saves time to just change the percentage and tack on or remove any other taxes.

I could be wrong about the details as mine still only shows the GST/HST and the detail section showing BC - HST. But my billing period ended March 14 and next one is coming up.

Got my recent bill and the results. Under bill summary it shows up as GST/HST plus PST and Only GST and PST under current charges detail.

You likely got the prorated taxes.
