Taking a Koodo Samsung to Europe

So my daughter is heading to Greece (Crete actually) for 6 weeks and then traveling for 2 weeks back through Europe to London before returning home. She has a Samsung Galaxy. Am I correct in assuming that if we unlock the phone (which she has had since last July) that she can purchase a SIM card in Greece, pop it in her phone and it will work?

Also if she takes her Koodo SIM card out and leaves it at home to avoid roaming fees (and continues to pay her monthly bill :) ) she can use her phone on WIFI for facebook and internet browsing?

Hi Sam,

What Galaxy is it? You'd need to make sure it has the correct bands for Greece, but if it works there, yes have it unlocked and pop in a Greek prepaid SIM. You won't be able to beat that price I'm sure :)

Even without a SIM she'll be able to connect it to WiFi, for sure! Also 911 (probably 112 there) will still work, in case of emergencies.

Hope she has a great trip, Crete is quite lovely and the people there are really nice!

In addition, I see you selected Prepaid, is that what she currently has? In that case she won't have to worry at all about roaming charges even if she leaves the SIM card in, because Prepaid won't work outside of Canada anyway :)

Oh, here I am again :) Since she will be traveling outside of Greece to different countries, it might be an idea to get her a roaming SIM card. There are several, I have had good experiences with eKit, Truphone, Piranha etc (my personal favorite is Truphone which will offer local costs in GB). Hope that helps :)
