Other than the foreign models does anyone know of a 7" tablet that works as a full phone as well?

Koodo doesn't need to "support'. Tablet phones use the same tech as phones. So as long as the sim is the same size and the tablet uses the 850-1900 frequency it will work with Koodo

Just to chime in here, we do provide limited troubleshooting for non-Koodo phones with regards to Voice and Text(we will log network tickets if the issue isn't resolved) but for data issues, if it works, it works, if it doesn't work, not much else we can do.

I am tempted at a 6.0" Chinese type phone like this:
picture this

Based on the specs seen here it would work but 1 meg of memory and 2 batteries are key features for me; assuming it's under $190 shipped.

I hope you mean 1 gig and not 1 meg. One meg wasn't even enough 20 years ago.

Good catch, well my first computer had 4kb of memory. Programmers need to optimize!

There's a version of the Galaxy Note 8.0 that has phone capabilities where you use a Bluetooth S-Pen as the receiver/speaker to make calls. It's some James Bond type Sh*T lol.

If I'm using a separate handset I still like this idea better:

Actually I find this item quite handy:

got it at Dollarama for $2, my mother has alzheimer's, so getting her to use a cell phone is next to impossible, but with this she can talk for hours to her friends when we're out and about.

Marcel,

Does this tablet have "phone access" out of the box or do you have to modify it?

It's my understanding that this is like many tablets and "data only."

unlocked, ready to go. that ones comes with a ATT sim, the other with a TMo sim. No difference in the models. I have the ATT one (actually got it before they started shipping with SIM cards as my proxy is based in the US and had it shipped to one of my co-workers) I don't normally walk around carrying the phone up to my head (use BT in the car for that) but it does have really good audio...
