Is the 24 month TAB guarantee a new offering or only available for new customers? I've been on a $20 plan since April 2008 when I opened a $150 TAB and I still owe $17 on the phone. That's 64 months and I'm still almost a year from paying it off.

That came into effect when rules changed for phone companies just recently. Now you are allowed to leave any new contract after 2 years without penalty even if you sign for 3 years but that is only contracts signed after I forget the date but I think it was January this year.

You would still owe the rest of your tab. Keep in mind though that plan prices went up to adjust for this. The cheapest plan now offered is $30 a month through koodo.

Actually, the rules have not yet been enforced and will not be enforced until December of this year.

But the Tab guarantee is only available for those who activated or upgraded after the tab guarantee came out.

When you upgrade your phone you automatically become eligible, but not until December as Ahmad said.

Hi Kevin,

It's slightly different from what Jasper just explained (though he did a good job) :)
He is absolutely correct that the new rules came into effect only recently, so your old Tab would not be affected by it. However, Koodo never had any contracts - except the 3 year iPhone specific contract.

The new 24 months Tab is also available if you upgrade your device, you don't need to upgrade your plan. However with the $20 plan you have, you would only qualify for the Tab Small.

You don't need to wait till your $17 is paid off, you can upgrade your device at any moment and benefit from the new 2 year paying off of your Tab!

If there's a phone you like available right now it's IMO better to upgrade now if your tab is going to take a year or two or even longer to pay off as you'll then be eligible for the 2 year guarantee like stated above. My tab would have taken over a year to pay off so I gladly upgraded as it will take only a few months longer to pay my tab now as it would of before I upgraded and I get a nice new phone out of the deal, what could be better ;-)
