Tab vs No Term. Is the warranty the same? Questions..

I'm currently a prepaid customer using a BB Q5. My phone is wearing out. I'm considering the Samsung S5 Neo on monthly plan. I believe the phone retails for around $550. If I pay the full price of the phone upfront, pick a monthly plan, is the phone warranty for one year? By the second year if the phone wear out, issues, and it can't be fixed, does Koodo give you a replacement phone of equal value? Or you would pay out of pocket for a new one?

If I use the tab method, does the same apply to the above. Phone wears out or not fixable is it replaced with another phone of similar value? Or because the tab takes two years to pay off, the warranty is extended or phone is replaced?

I was told by someone I could choose a phone  that is offered for monthly customers, buy it, and put it on prepaid. Two counters I spoke to said I could not do that.

Thanks for you're help!

I'd suggest against the S5Neo. PErsonally I'd say get the Moto G4 Plus or the Lg G4. Better value and cheaper as both come in at 360. But yes if you pay up front then you still get one year manfuacturers warranty no matter what. No Koodo will not give you a free phone out of warranty or even in. You have 14 days to return or replace your phone without issue. Unless you get the extended warranty, it'll be up to Samsung's disccretion if you're still within the manufacturers warranty whether you get a repair or replacement. If you have a credit card with the option to extend warranty, you could go that route.

There's no reaosn for you not to buy any phone outright. You'll be able to take it with you to prepaid if that's what you want. Only thing is prepaid doesn't have the tab option.

Okay thanks! I will look at the Moto G4 plus or the LG G4. So does Koodo offer extended warranties for all of their phones or just Samsung and Apple?

Yes. The manufacturer offers a 1 year warranty against manufacturer's defects.

No.

Or you would pay out of pocket for a new one?
Yes

The warranty is for 1 year. You can sometimes buy an extended warranty at additional cost which covers the phone for longer, and for other perils, such as breakage.

Some places will sell a phone to you at full sticker price. Others may not, as the sales are tied to being connected to a plan. Shop around a bit, including online, and you should be able to find a retailer who will sell you a phone without a plan attached.

Thanks! I will shop around and see if another Koodo kiosk or retailer will let me buy one outright.

Minor correction. You have 15 days to return the phone to a Koodo shop. Some retailers, who are not affiliated with Koodo may impose a shorter time period to return or exchange the phone.
