I am looking to get a new phone, I am a customer threw koodo, if I was to buy a new phone from Telus, can I still use it on koodo, even if it's not unlocked? Telus and koodo are the same providers aren't they?

It depends a bit on the phone, Aliesha, some do indeed work, but not all... it's a bit of a hit and miss so if you post what phone you have in mind, probably people will be able to tell if you it would work unlocked :)

Only thing I can add to Sophia's post is while Telus owns Koodo they are not the same carrier. Telus stores do not carry Koodo and vice versa. It seems like it's becoming more and more common for Telus phones to work on Koodo without unlocking, but only way to know for sure is to try a sim card in it which you can only do after you by it.

People have had success with iPhones and the Blackberry Z10 for sure, and I think I tried my Koodo Lumia 610 with a Telus sim and it worked fine. It's just androids that are a bit more unknown.

What phone are you hoping to get?

I'm not exactly sure what phone I want to get, I did have the samsung galaxy s3 in mind. So are you trying to say, androids sometimes won't work?, but I'm not exactly sure which phone yet. Just wanted to make sure, before I went and got another phone!

I've seen some older ones not work. If I was to guess the s3 would probably be ok since Koodo and Telus both carry the phone.

If you're going to buy it from Telus anyway why not buy it from Koodo as it's cheaper? Or were you planning on going second hand or something?

I wasn't aware koodo carried those phones. How much does the samsung galaxy S3 usually priced at? If I can get it cheaper I would go second hand. Just wondering things before I buy the phone!

No problem! Koodo sells the S3 for $550 outright which I believe is $100 cheaper than Telus.

Second hand is probably cheaper however buyer beware. If the phone was lost/stolen and flagged you will not be able to use it, and it could have problems you are not able to see (such as liquid damage or other faults).

It's better to buy from an official store/place because honestly, I'd rather pay a bit more than take the risk of my device being damaged or not working properly.
