So here's the deal.
A friend of mine is giving me her old iPhone 4s (i'm pretty sure from rogers)
Right now I have an Lg Optimus black and I like my plan with Koodo (affordable, unlimited text, etc)

My question: How do I go about switching out my phone? and do I have to change plans because it's an iPhone?

No need to switch plans. You can just swap your sim card into your new phone, or get a new sim if it is a different size. A new sim costs $10 and you can swap the phone number onto it via self serve.

However if it is a Rogers iPhone, you will need to make sure it is unlocked by Rogers first or via 3rd party (this options is usually very pricey for an iPhone)

First you have to unlock an iphone 4s from Rogers.
You don't need to change your plan to use an iphone.
Then switch your sim card from Lg Optimus to an iphone. ( Lg using micro sim card, right?)
