I want to switch from Koodo monthly to prepaid and keep the same number.

How long does this process take? Can I activate the new prepaid account, port over my current Koodo number, and then cancel the monthly account all at once, or is there an overlap period?

Generally, 30 minutes to 2 1/2 hours, assuming you keep your monthly plan active and give the correct account info at the store.

Just make sure you have your account number handy and enjoy your prepaid service.

Your monthly account will cancel on its own.

You can do it yourself online now (June 2015). Went to the store armed with old bills, id etc. They simply sold me a SIM and told me to log onto the activation site.

Went like a charm. One web form devoted to porting existing number from Koodo or other carrier. Switched over and old account cancelled in less than a minute once the web page was clear.

And you do get the $20 discount for a "new" activation even though you are an older customer, so the SIM is basically free.

Didn't I tell you in another thread that Koodo prepaid SIM cards are cheaper than $20 on eBay? You get a $20 activation credit with any prepaid activation, so it's like they are paying you to activate a prepaid line.

Yeah, sure. Try to find the right size one for your phone with you guaranteeing a refund? Lots of old stock out there with some dubious descriptions. I think not.

The whole point of my comment is that Koodo should make it easier for customers to buy, not harder. I could have tripped over 5 Virgin or Bell booths on my way there.

In any event, it was not a special trip, and I will order one from eBay just for yuks for my next activation. Thanks for your tip anyways.
