My iPhone was stolen on Saturday night from a table right behind me.  I have the find my iPhone app installed and lost mode activated, as well as "notify when found" on.  I've called koodo and reported it as stolen. I'm now worried that I'm unable to track it as I suspended my service (first option yes) but then didn't suspend my phone (second option no). I'm just curious if I can track it, and what my next steps should be? Also is there any coverage for me to get a new phone?

Also, they had turned off the phone within minutes of stealing it :(

If the phone is turned off,  there is no way to track it.
So,  Did you suspend your service?

To track the device with Find my iphone,  the Phone and Data or wifi would need to be on:

Visit http://iCloud.com/find
Sign in your iCloud account using Apple ID.
Click on the Find My iPhone button.
Choose Locate an iPhone device if you have set up more than one iOS device.
Your lost/stolen iPhone's location will show on the map if your device is online.

I don't know for sure :p I definitely suspended something, I think my service.  I got confused after I said yes, and then they asked about suspended the phone.  I figured that meant wiping it in which case I didn't want to bc if they did turn it on I couldn't track it.

So the service is suspended, but not the phone itself.  I really don't understand the difference but I couldn't find a way to talk to anyone to ask...

Suspending your service would just block any activity from your sim card. So no one would be able to make calls or txt or use data on your phone.

Find my iphone is a service of apple.com . As noted above if the phone is on with Data or wifi on it can track your actual phone.

Hello Jenna

Suspending the service is where you made a mistake since the phone can not connect to a data network anymore. This will lower your chances of finding your phone. Unfortunately, at this point there's nothing much left to do.

Very sorry for your loss.

I think only when you find your phone. But at that point I don't recommend unsuspending it. Your SIM card is most likely in the trash already

Concerning the tracking of a lost or stolen cell phone please read this article from CTV and be careful.

I did call Koodo and unsuspended it over the phone, I'm going to go talk to someone at the Wal-Mart telecommunications booth where I bought the phone through koodo to find out my options :(

If you suspended your service and not the phone, the thief is able to use the phone with their sim card in it
