My stepdad received a download text from my number, but when I check my phone there's no sent text on my end. I've seen it on his phone, so I know he's not making it up. Has my phone been compromised or something?

Jeremy, very interesting and perplexing, especially with the MMS issue and potential StageFright vulnerability. It could be as simple as someone spoofed your mobile number to send a text soliciting something, in other words, spammed your step-dad. There is no anti-spoofing law in Canada as there is in the USA.
Did someone have access to your device in order to text your step-dad and then delete the sent text? Malicious behaviour but not unknown.
You have verified some one/thing possibly spoofed your mobile number so step 1 is to delete the MMS from your stepdad's mobile before downloading whatever is in the MSG.
Is your mobile operating normally? Has anyone else you know received a similar text from you that you did not send?
If your Mobile Data is backed up and you won't lose anything critical or irreplaceable then for peace of mind you could do a factory reset. However, unless there is ample proof your device has been compromised you may not want a reset.
Make sure your device is up dated with the latest OS and security from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the reply. Nobody else had access to my phone, when the text was sent my phone was beside me. I don't know if anyone else has received a text, I haven't heard anything. I might just do a factory reset to be safe, nothing irreplaceable on the phone. Thanks!

This is considered an answer but it's not really. It's a maybe this, maybe that with no real solutions. I am having the same issue. My mom's phone keeps having photo message sms messages from me show up when I haven't sent anything. We haven't opened the photos but it's quite annoying as she has to check with me about everything I send.

I had this happen too. Son called and ask what the downloads were that I sent. I didn’t. Then I get a text from daughter with same scenario. Then son got one from his wife he didn’t send. All verified. What’s up??

My guest guess is a rogue app, or perhaps even an app you are not aware of. What phone do you have?

if you have never sent him a mms its best to disregard it as it could be a spoofing attempt, if you have it could be a delayed mms you have sent him previously because if your data isn't on you usually don't receive mms, so once you turn it on they come flooding in. if  it isn't that your best to avoid it due to the stage fright vulnerability becoming a wider known issue
