Someone Using My Email Address for Prepaid Account

I am wondering if I can get some help here. It seems that someone has associated my email address to their prepaid plan.  I was planning on signing up with a Koodoo plan this weekend and I would like to be able to use my own email address.  I phoned support but the support person was less than helpful and asked "What do you want me to do about that" and suggested I just sign up for a new email address.

Getting a new email address cannot possibly be the only solution for this, can it?

Are you a Gmail user?

If so you can use an alias email to sign up for postpaid.

To do this simply add a plus sign after your username and then a keyword to remind you it will be from koodo

Forinstance (which isn't my email address btw)

Emails sent to that address will go to your regular inbox.

I am a gmail user, and that is a great suggestion! so thank you for that!

I'm still a but confused as to why they are unable to look up the phone number associated to that account and call and get the correct email.  Oddly enough this happened to me once with AT&T a few years ago and it was solved in minutes.

Well there's is a way to change that but it'd require you access the prepaid account. It's probably just someone mistakenly put your address in and never used self serve.

Maybe they forgot their password and couldn't reset it since they don't know what email they accidentally entered.

Hey Kate! Can you send us a detailed email through this link and select "social media" as a category? Please include the email that you're looking to use and the link to refer to this conversation, and we'll see what we can do. Thank you :)!

I have a similar problem.
I am NOT a Koodo member, don't have an account, and I don't want one.

I have been receiving someone else's Koodo-sent emails for years.
I posted in this forum before, but there doesn't seem to be a way for Koodo to fix this problem.

Here's what happened, as near as I can tell:
Someone with my same first name signed up for koodo.
They must have an email close to mine.
They miss-typed their email, and accidentally signed up with mine!

Koodo apparently can't fix this.  I can't believe it. That seems so irresponsible.
Their answer was that the other "ellen" will realize they aren't getting their emails from Koodo and will then fix their account's email.  But it hasn't happened in, what, 3 years?

Great I.T. department, eh?  Can't fix someone spamming someone else's email.
I should call the Better Business Bureau, or something.

Here's the email I got a few days ago...

Account number: ****768  Thanks for your payment.

We received a payment of $73.96 on May 05, 2017.

Your payment is now reflected on your account. Your remaining balance is $0.00.

All the best,
The Koodo Team

I would try contacting Koodo again and let them know that the other person hasn't realized the mistake yet. You can contact them via facebook or twitter so you don't have to wait on hold.
In the meantime, you can block any further emails from Koodo with whatever email provider you are using.
