Software Updates for Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

I bought the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge from Samsung store. The staff at Samsung store said the phone will branded to Koodo when I insert a Koodo SIM.

Who will be providing software updates for this Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge device purchased from the Samsung store? Is that Koodo or Samsung itself?

Almost all big software updates are finalized and pushed through by our service providers.
With an exception to a few select phones( Nexus )

Apparently Nexuses (maybe Nexi) are pushed through the providers too.

@Riley, yes, you can buy outright from Samsung. Koodo will sell devices outright too, as long you are a Koodo customer. I've bought outright from Koodo as well.

Chadwick is right.  If the phone is locked to Koodo, then Koodo controls the Andorid update.  If the phone is unlocked, then I believe that the manufacturer can push the update without the carrier letting the update pass through them

@Dennis, Good info. Here is what will happen. The S7 Edge from Samsung Experience Store will "branded" to Koodo once I insert a Koodo SIM. But the phone is also unlocked as I have the unlock code. Do you think Koodo will control the Android update under this scenario?
