Why do I need a social insurance number/drivers license to buy a phone with a plan? Also, if I do give my social insurance number how secure is it?

I'll answer the first part. To verify your identity, prevent fraud and to allow Koodo to run a credit check.

Koodo, like many other organizations this day and age, take security very seriously. They have to abide by organizational codes and they can't afford not to. Let me ask you this: how secure is your SIN with a bank? How do you know it's secure? Once again, banks have to abide by organizational codes and regs set forth by the privacy commission and what not. You can read their privacy policies online
