So Fido/Zoomer is having a great promo and Koodo is doing nothing about it?

Looks like Fido currently has a new online promo (over customer service for Ontario): $50 for unlimited talk+text and 5GB data with additional 10% discount for a new line. Meanwhile Koodo has $60 for 1000 minutes and 4GB data. Will Koodo stay competitive in the game or will there be excuses such as "our plans are without contract, BYOD, costly network installation etc". I love Koodo but the plans are really bad if you live in Ontario.
Look at Zoomer, $36 for 400min, 2GB data with $100 credits and a free phone ($45 4GB/unlimited calls loyalty plan after 6 months). They run on Rogers network too.
Whenever I talk to customer service about these plans, they can't offer anything saying what you see is what you get.
I think my days at Koodo are coming to an end (I am on $35 unlimited talk/text with no data).

Koodo, Fido and Virgin all have practically the same plans so they all stay in line with each other. There is no way Koodo can predict when another company is going to have a promo and each company has their own unique promos. You may find that next week Koodo has one that is better. It's all the way you look at it but the base plans of the three companies are practically the same. As well, I find that Fido/Rogers customers don't get nearly as good reception throughout Canada but that is purely a personal opinion.

What do you mean by " new online promo (over customer service)"?
Only people who called in could get this promo : $50, unlimited talk+text with 5GB?  And  additional 10% discount for a new line?

"Whenever I talk to customer service about these plans, they can't offer anything saying what you see is what you get."
- It would be so unfair if they give you some discount because you called in.  Then we all should call in and wait on hold for 5-6 hours or more to talk to a rep.

I agree we Ontarians don't get great plans like SK/MT or QC and I don't like that.
I wish we all get those kind of plan.

Hi Mayumi, I am not talking about discount, I am talking about unadvertised promotions that is available for everyone (whether its loyalty, retention or new activation). Fido has a lot of these, Koodo has very few. Though its not fair to compare with Zoomer wireless.
I just found out that the promotion was for existing customers and yes, there is a 10% discount for additional line.

Koodo doesn't WANT people to call in. Having unadvertised promotions that people have to call in to get defeats the entire PURPOSE of being a self serve carrier.

Hey Suresh I am looking at those same plans from Fido and Zoomer, AND worst case Freedom Mobile owned by Telus. Need more gb as I have 2gb paying $49. Fido plan has 3gb more And 1000 LD mins and they have a great credit card to boot. So basically 3 options. I'm aiming for the Fido plan so if I call them, I will switch as it is probably a limited time offer and no point trying to get the same plan from Koodo which would cost $70+ and judging from the posts here, Koodo customer retention probably isn't as high a priority as opposed to getting new customers (like everyone else)

Telus owns Freedom Mobile? When did this happen?

Freedom is owned by Shaw.

Freedom Mobile is not owned by Telus, nor does it operate on Telus' country-wide network.  You may be thinking of Public Mobile, Telus' do-it-yourself  BYOD brand.

Dan, this forum is made up of people like you answering the questions. Koodo has great customer service from their reps available through email, phone, facebook or twitter. Service may seem a little underwhelming here at times because we domt have access to information like the Koodo reps would. Just something to think about!
