SMS forwarding or auto-reply

So, since call forwarding is possible it seems like it should also be possible to forward SMS or at least be able to set an auto-reply for if a message is undelivered. I frequently go out of cell phone range for work and I want people who text me to know that I'm not just ignoring them. This would be good to have for if a phone runs out of battery as well, since apps that forward messages can only do so if the message is actually received by the device.

hi Ben,
Koodo currently  does not support forwarding SMS at the network level. Some phones allow some apps (android) or some settings (iOS) to forward SMS (to the devices with the same apple id).
SMS was an old tech, carriers might not add any feature to it in the future though,..just like the extinction of pagers...

I realize it's not currently supported, and that you can get apps (or change settings) to do it, but I shouldn't be hard to implement at a network level right? And those who needed it (admittedly a limited subset of customers) would be willing to pay for it

@Ben, you could put it in the idea area, if Koodo see many customer  require it, they might implement.

Koodo cant even get Volte or wifi calling to users unless you have certain phones. Dont hold your breath on this ever happening even if its easy to implement.

A good idea. Maybe that would be a feature of sms+ (RCS)

I think It is like MMS+, but currently it is working on certain devices/carriers and on Android only https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/05/11/rcs-messaging-sms-canada-explainer/

SMS is considered more secure than email in part because it can't be forwarded at the network level.

Mmm... never say never.

One of the big holdbacks in using a VoIP service has been the lack of SMS support. Recently, my VoIP carrier introduced an SMS dashboard accessible on internet as well as simultaneous SMS forwarding from the VoIP number to cellular or any SMS capable number.

The humungous advantage of this is that the VoIP dashboard stores all your SMS even if they can't be delivered to your cell, and you can access these messages anywhere you have an internet connection even if you don't have cell service.

Any of the apps you can get on your phone to do forwarding or repeating presume you received the message on your handset to begin with, so are kind of useless if you are away from your home network for anything other than a brief period of time.
