You can just turn off data on your phone!! It sounds silly but it's doable!!

The only problem is that, depending on your phone model, you will need data to set up a new phone!! I got a new iPhone 4S a year ago and i didnt have a data plan at first, but when i set up my iPhone, i got charged for some (minimal) data ... I got charded for a few seconds of data before i mnaged to tutn data off!!

iPhones will not activate without wifi, dont need data to activate it. It can be on Data Block.

Bonita is absolutely correct about switching off data on most phones, Jessica. In addition, you can also request Koodo to turn off data. But then you wouldn't be able to send pictures messages (MMS) either.

If you switch off data on your phone, and (as bonita mentioned happened to her) you did get charged for a few KB of data, you could ask Koodo for a one time refund of that data too.... not saying you'd get that 100% certain but usually they are very lenient!

All that said :P I have to add one thing: using a smartphone without data is like... eating salt without an egg... or using a steering wheel without a car... or moving a mouse around without a computer attached :D

Well I guess since many places now have Free WiFi available or WiFi hotspots, you can use a smartphone without data. For example, I am mostly at home and at school and I have WiFi available most of the times but it is very convenient and useful to have data and I don't think I can use my phone without data now lol.

Having data gives you full functionality of the device. There are affordable data options for postpaid customers starting at $30/month or you can opt for pay per use on a Talk & Text. Prepaid data boosters are more expensive but they rollover, so you can potentially stretch out your booster for months if you manage it well!
