Show caller ID along with phone number on incoming and outgoing calls. It helps in screening unnecessary calls. Rogers does offer this.

Would be nice, yes :) Not sure why none of the other carriers offer that!

As far as I know this is a Rogers/Fido exclusive feature called Name Display, which is available as an add-on in a bundle with some other things like some international texting, WhoCalled, and other jazz. Don't really know why only they have it, but it is what it is.

I always loved this feature when I was on Rogers and Fido. Bring this feature, Koodo!

If it can be implemented this might help alleviate the large number of phone calls we get about number spoofing. If so, I'm all for it.

Unfortunately the name is as easily set to any value as the number :)

I'm hoping that the odds of a familiar looking number in conjunction with a familiar looking name will be low enough that customers will be able to see they don't know the caller.

Steve, it's true that Canadian carriers pass along whatever you tell them to, which can be fun, but is likely part of the reason only Rogers offers this. US-based callers must be registered in a central database for the name to show up - something scammers are less likely to do; or do properly.

This also means that Rogers runs their own database - their customers are permanently registered in it, and outside callers are cached temporarily (since they likely pay to check CNAM like the rest of us).

Interesting, you "pay" to check the CNAM on inbound calls. You must have an app with a subscription to do that over data? CNAM was never part of the cellular standard until recently as an extension that Rogers supports. I expect they simply pass it on like any carrier does to a landline and don't pay for the information as they have a network that supports it but I'd be interested in hearing more about paying a little extra to do it like you do. Do tell.

Sorry Steve I was referring to VOIP providers, where you can opt to do a query on calls where the information is not provided.

There are apparently several apps (at least for Android) which will allow you to do something similar though - see this article over at mobile syrup:

Hi aGoogler, just wanted to follow up on this. We looked into it and the number of customers who are interested in fairly low at this point. This may be a case where the time we put into this may not be valuable for most of our customers. Instead, there are a few other things in the works. If there are more interests of course, let's hear it. The more people talk about it on our community, the more we push it :)
