Shock Free is not working for my daughter.

I have switched to Koodo because of Shock Free data plan for my daughter. However, I got shocked again since Koodo sends text messages to her to allow more data. She has $40 plan but I'm paying $50 every month because she added more data by accepting the text messages. Would you be able to block this kind of messages? I'm considering moving her number to Freedom mobile seriously. Thanks!

Hi Jae-Min,

If you would stop the messages from being sent then the data would not be stopped automatically. Perhaps you should discuss with your daughter about the added costs she is running and how she should not do that. Either that or switch to a plan that has a sufficient amount of data available.

The issue with Freedom mobile is that you would loose national coverage and could only get coverage in select cities and when you start using it outside of the city it will start racking up roaming charges, so if your daughter uses more data when she shouldn't be I highly doubt Freedom mobile would be the solution. Perhaps you should take a look at pre-paid, you can add the data you want with add-ons and once those are done, then she won't be able to use data until you go and add more data to the plan. It is more expensive then regular monthly plans, but perhaps it would be cheaper once we take into consideration the overage charges for her usage.

The texts messages are sent to inform you that you have used 50, 90 and 100% of your data. At 100% it tells you data has been blocked and you can text 'Y' for more. If you remove these text messages then data will not be blocked once it reaches 100%.
You can switch to prepaid so that your daughter can't go over or just charge her for what she pays when she goes over.

Thanks for the quick reply and you guys are awesome! As you know, the kid has no sense to control the data. I already discussed with my daughter about the plan but she said it was an emergency so she had to use the data. Going to prepaid will cause more trouble since I can't control her either. I'm ok sending messages for telling the data usage but please do not send messages to give an option to add more data. Please...

Like I mentioed above, a lot of parents charge their kids when they go over their data as to teach them how expensive it is.
If you switch to prepaid you will have full control over all the charges. You will have to put money onto the account anytime you want to add more data and when the data runs out, it is out until you choose to add more. No worry about controlling her and her spending.
As for removing this feature, it was talked about in a previous thread and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it at this current moment in time.

What was the "emergency?"
A friend of mine used this parenting tip: "Unless you are bleeding from an artery, it is not an emergency."

Like the others have said, if your daughter is unable to exercise the necessary self-control, you could drop her to a voice & text plan with a data block, or prepaid. Once she has learned the skill of self control, or reaches the age of majority, she can have a full featured plan.
