For all you Samsung S4 owners, theres a new firmware update ready for your device. I'm updating as I type this. Most should get the update within a few hours to a day or so.

It seems that they really smoothed out the animations ppl were calling lag. Let me know if you notice the same

Yes it seems very, very smooth! I saw on your site that the firmware for the camera is updated, I wonder what's new :) I really like that camera, especially the fact I can shout "SMILE" or "SHOOT" and it takes a picture :D

You can make your phone smoother yet by enabling developer mode. Go to setting, more, then about device. Find build number and tap that about 5 to 7 times go out of that window and you'll see developer mode. Once in developer mode, enable, then scroll down to window animations. There are 3 lines you need to change from something like 0.5X and change it to off. Bingo a lot less lag if any.

I did that before the update but now there's no need at all, the animations are buttery smooth & everything just seems even snappier & just finished now. lovin the update its the perfect phone now & other than sound it's better in every way than the HTC ONE, which is still a great device but just not as good. I highly recommend it for ppl who want the best you can get right now.

true, I just like having some animations. before the update I didn't completely turn it off just brought a couple from 1x down to .5x & I think turned one of the three off and it ran pretty smooth but even smoother now even without doing it. If tou dont care about animations then heck ya turn them off and it will definitely be quicker.

I like to run my phone nice and lean, no fluff. Although, I still like to use my phone as a smartphone. Plus, I've disabled numerous apps and my phone runs smooth.

I enjoy the animations ... without them it's not as visually appealing IMO.

I am planning on getting the Samsung galaxy s4 next week Friday {August 1st} am I going to need to do the update and I saw from the link that was provided that it will allow apps to be installed on the MicroSD card ?

it allows for parts of certain apps to be moved to the SD Card, it gained me a full 1gb of internal storage after moving all I could which is huge IMO.

The update is optional but I'd update as it also includes bug fixes and other goodies.

Help! I did the update and now by battery is draining amazingly fast. I used to use 30-40% of the power/day, but since I did the update on July 22, I'm losing 50-60%/day with no more usage of changes to the phone.

What can I do to fix this? I liked my S4 for the battery life!

Try charging the phone to 100% and leave it plugged in while doing a factory reset. **keep in mind youll lose everything when you do a factory reset and will have to download your apps again so backup your contacts and calander ect. **

You can back them up by going into the phones settings menu and scroll down to your google account and click on it. Now click your gmail address that shows at the top and a list will pop up with checkable boxes beside each thing, check off the ones you want to backup or just check all them to make sure you dont forget something. now press the sync now and wait for ut to fi ish syncing. repeat this for any other accounts that show under accounts section in settings that you want to make sure are synced/backed up.

My battery consumption sucks since I did the update. Tried Pauls suggestion and same results. . Why did I "update"? Will look into getting the soon to be released Moto Max (3500ma battery) on ebay if it's not too expensive. Samsung, fix your phones.

I forgot to also say too fully discharge and charge to full the first 2 or 3 times after you do the factory reset that was done while at full charge while plugged in.
*Also keep in mind that battery life will increase over time & be at its peak in about 1-2 weeks of use after the reset depending on how often you discharge and charge the device. *

I've read that lithium batteries don't like to be discharged as they lose their capacity to keep a charge over time. Best to recharge your battery once it hits around 20ish%. Will wait for JB 4.3 update as I've been reading it should increase battery performance.

When your phone hits 0% there's still power in your battery it's never at actual 0%. Also I've always done what I explained and never had battery issues that many with the same devices I've had have reported on 3 devices that caused big uproar in the Android Community. My battery always lasts longer than everyone I talk to on the net so I must be doing something right. It was a rumour that 4.3 increases battery life drastically as I'm running it on my Nexus 4 since they announced it on Wednesday. I've noticed a very slight increase but nothing to get excited over unfortunately. I got super excited when I seen pocket now report amazing battery life but the guy must never use his phone because there's no other way to get that kind of battery life on 4.3.

I lost my mobile data shortcut and gained the reading mode icon. Also my developer options are changed to animations off and i notice no apees improvement. My SD card shortcuts were grayed out though they still worked, I simply erased them and repasted the shortcuts and its all good. Just a little disappointed in the rushed delivery, I'd also like my mobile data icon back. Anyone else have these problems?

The mobile data toggle is gone for good... IMO, it's pretty stupid. I have animations off and have no idea how to turn them on. These are all consequences of the new FW upgrade... Completely uselss

The next patch you'll probably have is going to be Android 4.4 (KitKat) and this is in a while...
