Samsung Galaxy S2x will NOT update through Kies OR the 'Odin' software! HELP

I am using a Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion OS. I've looked through every forum and tried every trick. Uninstalling and reinstalling Kies still gives me a "your devices current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies". I've tried using the "Odin" software trick but that software is not available for a Mac!

Help!! This is so annoying, I desperately want the most recent update.

What version of Android is your Galaxy S2x running presently?

At the moment, it's running 4.0.4.

Since Kies is detecting your device, you should back up all your data through Kies, disconnect the device and perform a hard reset (factory data reset) on the S2x. Go to Settings > Back up and reset > Factory data reset. This will restore the device to factory default and Kies should now be able to upgrade your device.

To get Odin to work on your machine, you could try using VirtualBox and run Windows 7, for example. It sounds like an arduous task just to get an update for your device, unfortunately there isn't much out there in terms of software other than Heimdall, which many have reported to be unstable.
