I just bought a Samsung Galaxy s2x third party, I am a Telus customer though. I guess I can't just put my Sim in and it work.
My question is can I update the firmware using my Telus file and it will switch over with all the settings? I have the same version of phone, one for Telus and one for Koodo.
Or do I have to unlock it?

Unlocking the phone is all that's needed for the phone to work on Koodo's network for calls and texts. Afterwards you can configure the APN settings for data to work on Koodo. (Find out how at

Nothing else needs be changed.

hey mike!
you you shouldnt need to unlock it. because koodo and telus are the same company the phones are the same, you can try sticking your koodo sim in the phone and test it out that way, if it doesnt ask for the mep code and you get service and phones says your connected to koodo you are good to go:)

Hi there, non-Koodo phones must be unlocked to work on our network, even Telus phones. Currently, only Telus iPhones (3Gs and up) can work without being unlocked, although it has been reported that a few Telus Android phones were activated without being unlocked . We can't guarantee that though and, for that reason, it's important to keep using the conditional tense :) Thanks!

If you see a good answer, give it a star.

Telus Blackberries have been pretty good too. I've seen a Telus 9320, 9790, Z10, and a Q10 all work on Koodo without an unlock.

You can always test it out by visiting a Koodo shop near you and popping a Koodo SIM in it.
