SAMSUNG GALAXY II - NO CHOICE OF PERSONAL TX NOTIFICATION SOUNDS

Having just bought the Samsung Galaxy III, I am surprised to learn that the tx notification sound cannot be changed from Samsung default sounds. The ringtone, and alarm sounds can be changed to whatever music you want to download, but not the tx notification. Or, am I missing something?

HEy there Hazel!
you need to go into messaging, hit the menu button, its the square with the 2 lines going horizantal to the left of the home button, then scroll down to notifications and select your notification for your texts :)

Hey you! thanks for that. Worked perfectly. Also found out how to increase message alert repetition.

The nice thing about Android is that even if that option was not available to you with the default app, there's an alternative to nearly everything that comes with the phone on the Play Store. You can get an entirely different messaging app with custom themes and sounds, the launcher can be changed, you can add toggles/info in the notifications area, you can get custom lock screens, and so on.
