My s4 wont update to 4.4. I just got it unlocked, went to koodo and got a sim card for it and it will not update from 4.2.2 to kitkat. It always goes through at&t updater and it keeps saying that my software is up to date, which i know isnt true.

If it was originally an AT&T Phone, you may have to wait for AT&T to push the update if they haven't already.

Im absolutely sure that the phone is SGH M919 and the error is failed AUTH which im assuming means authorization.. I just tried https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMbyITXKjOc and this did not work as well. I think something on the phone is completely locked down, and im thinking about rooting to get rid of it...

Just a tip man, I know your frustrated but please watch the language you use here as this is a family friendly community and we don't allow foul language. Thanks man and I hope you get it fixed.
Have you ever rooted / ROM'd your device before? If you have make sure your not running a custom ROM as you won't be able to update the device, you'll have to roll it back to stock to update

You tried via the phone, you tried via Odin. Both failed.
Have you tried using Kies?

One of the the reasons the upgrade didn't work is because you were probably trying to install the firmware package using the stock Android recovery utility. The method used in the video would require that your device be rooted and a custom recovery installed prior to installing the new firmware.

You need to go to SamMobile, get the proper firmware and use Odin to flash the device. In this instance, you don't need root access or a custom recovery because this is a stock firmware image.

You'll need to register with SamMobile first before you can download the firmware. Registration is free and so is the firmware download.

Your S4 will need to have USB debugging enabled (Developer options) and be in 'Download Mode' in order to communicate with Odin. Once you've downloaded the correct firmware image, open up Odin, connect your S4 and make sure Odin can 'see' your S4. The first box in Odin should light up blue or green, the colour doesn't matter as long as a com port is detected.

Don't change any other settings in the Odin window. Place a checkmark beside PDA, then click on the PDA button to locate the firmware image file on your computer, then click the Start button and wait until the process finishes and your S4 reboots.

This is the window you'll see after you've registered with SamMobile and performed a search for the devices' firmware. (Click on image to enlarge). By clicking on the blue SGH-M919 link in SamMobile, you'll be able to download Odin version 3.09.

OK, with the usb debugging mode on, Kies is able to access the phone, but even kies says firmware is up to date
